Islam – Religion of Peace
The term Islam is derived from the root word, whose meaning is Peace. Islam is one of the largest and
fasted growing religions of the world.
Technically it is the oldest religion in the world, as per Islamic
understanding the first prophet of Islam was Adam (pbuh) and the last and final
prophet was Muhammad (pbuh). Islam is
monotheistic religion, it also believes in other prophets like Abraham (pbuh),
Moses (pbuh) and Jesus (pbuh). They
believe that these great prophets preached the same message but the last and
final version of the message was preached by the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Muslims are distributed though-out the
world. Approximately between 22 to 25%
of the World’s population follows Islam.
The five major pillars of Islam
are -
- Shahadah (means Testimony) about believe in one God and acceptance of Muhammad as messenger of God.
- Salah - Five times prayers in a Day .
- Zakat – Giving a portion of wealth to the poor and needy as prescribed by the scriptures.
- Fasting – Fasting from dawn to dusk - Abstaining from food, drink. sex, sins and increasing the good deeds, charity, sadaqah, zakat etc.
- Haj – Piligrimage to Mecca once in a lifetime subject to the certain conditions and requirements.
Islam respects life, gives
protection to the women, children and elderly.
It gives importance to the orphans, needy, neighbors and wayfarers. Islam believes in the strong foundation of
Justice and supports the family system.
Islam is a way of life. Islam
believes that all human beings are born in the religion of Islam. Islam does not believe in the original
sin. It gives great respect to women and
the importance of mother is greater than father. It says that the Heaven lies under the feet
of mother.
Due to its simplicity and appealing concepts to humanity, many new people are joining everyday. Unfortunately due to its popularity and visibility, Muslims and Islam has become a victim of Islamophobia. There are fringe groups, who are scared of the success of Islam. They have done and are doing their best to create confusion not only among non -Muslims but also among Muslims by spreading false rumors about history and the current state with regards to Islam, Muslims and Islamic symbols. This has led to numerous human rights violations, caused immense problems and distress to the ordinary people who follow Islam. They may be successful in the short-run but in the long-run falsehood always perishes and truth always triumphs. The Qur’an (Ch. 21, V. 18) advises us: “When truth is hurled against falsehood, falsehood perishes, for falsehood by its nature is bound to perish”.
